It is already hot, so it won’t take too long. The IP will beep and start coming to pressure. Close the lid and set the valve to “sealing” position, and press the “pressure cooker” button.Add the pork chops back into the mushroom and broth mixture. Pour in the beef bone broth and scrape any of the browned bits from the bottom of the pot.Add the mushrooms, onions, and garlic to the IP and saute for 1-2 minutes.Remove the chops after they have been seared, and place them on a plate. You may want to do it in batches so you don’t overcrowd the chops. 2/17/2024 0 Comments Nasa sewp current feeThe project has since become a bloated mess. The SLS rocket has become a poster child for critics of NASA who say the agency has become a "jobs program." By design, more than a decade ago, the major contractors who worked on the space shuttle program-including Boeing and Northrop Grumman-moved smoothly from cost-plus contracts for that vehicle to similar contracts for the SLS rocket. When he was a US senator, Nelson was a key architect of the Space Launch System rocket, which has been funded by a series of lucrative cost-plus contracts since 2011. This comment was all the more remarkable coming from Nelson, a former senator, speaking to his one-time colleagues on the Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies Subcommittee. You get it done cheaper, and that allows us to move away from what has been a plague on us in the past, which is a cost-plus contract, and move to an existing contractual price." "You get it done with that competitive spirit. "I believe that that is the plan that can bring us all the value of competition," Nelson said of fixed-price contracts. Such awards pay contractors their expenses, plus a fee.įurther Reading NASA will award Boeing a cost-plus contract for up to 10 SLS rockets This contracting mechanism is relatively new for the space agency, which traditionally has used "cost-plus" contracts for large development programs. He said Congress needs to fund this lander contract with a fixed-price award, which only pays companies when they reach milestones. In other words, he wanted Congress to support NASA's request for funding to develop a second lander alongside SpaceX's Starship vehicle.īut Nelson didn't stop there. Cities in Mini Motorways have a Google Maps–esque aesthetic, except the roads are missing. The game was released on mobile with Apple Arcade, Apple’s mobile gaming subscription program Mini Motorways is exclusively available on iOS devices for now, but will eventually come to Steam, too. Mini Motorways is an iteration on that, swapping train lines for roadways. Mini Motorways is developer Dinosaur Polo Club’s follow-up to Mini Metro, a strategy simulator game where players created public transit maps. The monster is me - an evil, terrible city planner who has no idea what she’s doing. Often, I imagine, it’s this: What monster designed these roads? But rather than thinking about where they’re going or what they’re doing, I think about what they’re thinking about. I want to honour the reality of LA, and it's a glorious, complicated reality.I like to imagine the lives of drivers that travel through my Mini Motorways cities each day. When I think of LA I think of the melting pot of Pico, and that tangle of highways looped and bowed in spaghetti junctions. I only infrequently keep my colours separate and my roads clean. And in honour of the spirit of Los Angeles, I only occasionally play the game the right way, these days. I only play on Los Angeles, because it feels like the right thing to do. Oh man, I've made three lungs and a tangle of intestines. What I love most about it is that as my cities grow I can't help but see internal organs cropping up everywhere. But Mini Motorways is never an explicitly satirical game. There is judgement in this, I think - there has to be. This is a city where the big bullies get their way, and their way, in general, means getting to keep to themselves and ignore their slightly different neighbors. Scandalously for the Mini Metro player, you don't even need to connect all the houses that pop up, because you only really need to worry about the stores. So I connect oranges with oranges, pinks with pinks, blues with blues, and I try to never mingle them. Pink and orange cars using the same roads makes the chances of a jam much more likely. It's about separating lines rather than creating diversity. So the weird truth is that, at my level of skill anyway, which is not terribly high, Mini Motorways is the inverse of Mini Metro. And you try to keep contact with others to a minimum. You step out of the car slightly unprepared for human interaction, as if you're emerging from a long sleep. You're watching a movie across the cinerama screen of your windshield. In Los Angeles you're separated from the world around you. And the experience of driving in, say, Los Angeles, is very different to being squished on the tube in London. But cars are more selfish than trains, I eventually learned. This swiftly leads to a city in which all the houses and all the stores are essentially connected together: a knot of roads in which multicoloured traffic flows everywhere. The instinct at first is to value time of flight and time of arrival - the quickest route between houses and stores. Pink houses to pink stores! Orange houses to orange stores. Rather than dividing things up by shapes, the game sorts by colour. Basically, the stores make requests and people in the houses have to fulfil them, by sending cars out to the stores and then back to the houses. You have stores and you have houses, and you have to lay down roads to connect the stores to the houses. It's wonderfully positive in this regard: it sees cities as places where diversity is a strength, and there's a certain understanding that if you're using public transport you're not going to go directly to your destination anyway - everyone is in it together, which means you can all expect to go around the houses.Ĭars though! Mini Motorway initially looks kind of similar to Mini Metro. You want a line that can take any traveller to its intended station, which means a line that covers all the shapes for all the different shapes of traveller. The point, I think, is to encourage diversity. Mini Metro is a game about making underground systems, creating various coloured lines that link together stations marked by a variety of shapes. Still, it took me a while to understand quite how I had to approach things, and it took even longer to let all my Mini Metro instincts fall silent. It makes sense that Apple Arcade's Mini Motorways asks different things of me than Mini Metro, because cars are very different from trains. Grey tests the rookies by assigning them new TOs, partnering Nolan with Lopez, Jackson with Tim and Lucy with Bishop. Elsewhere, an arrest of a former college athlete causes Jackson and Lopez to talk about alternative careers to police work since Lopez still doubts Jackson's ability to handle the job. Meanwhile, Lucy helps Tim as he readjusts to being back on duty while also trying to help his drug addicted wife, who reveals to Lucy she was once a narcotics cop. The precinct learns that the thieves are part of a gang who have pulled off a string of heists and they begin searching for the remaining gang members. Nolan and Bishop chase a group of thieves and Nolan loses a bag of stolen money when a street performer runs off with it. Bishop is able to get Nolan a new vehicle, which he nearly crashes on his first drive. Lucy finds out that Tim, who's recovering from being shot in the previous episode, intentionally got her assigned to a poor officer to test her commitment. Captain Andersen thanks him for his success, but reminds him that it is not his job to punish criminals. While apprehending him, Bishop stops Nolan from beating the suspect in a rage. A kidnapping victim is rescued, and Nolan and Bishop obtain a lead on the kidnapper. Nolan is assigned a rusty old car as punishment for damaging his vehicle. Lucy is stuck with a lazy new training officer while her original TO Tim Bradford recovers, and winds up arresting a man for shoplifting. Nolan and Bishop arrest an addict for possession of drugs, but then learn that she stabbed a teenager dead in an argument. Also joining Nolan as rookie officers are Jackson West, son of a high-ranking LAPD officer and eager to live up to the family legacy, and Lucy Chen, who became a cop against the wishes of her therapist parents and is carrying on a secret affair with Nolan despite the risk it poses to her career. Nolan's first few days on the job are marked by a domestic dispute that quickly escalates out of hand (during which Nolan witnesses his first death), an unbalanced father who leaves his child in a locked car on a hot day, and an escaped felon who quickly tests Nolan in ways he never expected. New genetic research revealed that the platypus and echidnas share a common semi-aquatic ancestor, leading scientists to theorize that monotremes survived by taking to the water. Scientists studying mammalian evolution suspect that egg-laying might be the reason monotremes survived into the modern day.īetween 71 and 45 million years ago, marsupials took over Australia and became the dominant type of mammal on the continent. Monotremes split off from the mammalian evolutionary lineage before the evolution of placentas, so they retain this distinctly reptilian method of reproduction. When the young (called puggles) finally hatch, they’re only the size of a jellybean. (The four species of hedgehog-like echidna are the only other monotremes alive today, and they too live in Australia as well as New Guinea.) Female platypuses typically lay between 1 and 3 marble-sized eggs, which they incubate for about two weeks in an underground burrow. Platypuses are monotremes, a type of mammal that lays eggs instead of giving birth to live young. One of the (arguably) weirdest elements of platypus biology is their reproduction. They’re One of Two Types of Mammals to Lay Eggs.Platypus GLP-1 is much longer lasting, and scientists think it could one day lead to new medications for diabetes. Humans produce GLP-1, too, and a modified version is already used in diabetes treatments. Called GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1), the hormone promotes insulin release, which in turn lowers blood glucose levels. (One Vietnam War veteran described the pain as worse than being hit by shrapnel.) Victims also experience nausea, gastric pain, cold sweats, lymph node swelling, and muscle wasting in the envenomated area.Īnd yet platypus venom could one day help treat illnesses: Australian scientists recently discovered that platypus venom contains a hormone that could aid in diabetes treatment. While the venom isn’t fatal to humans, anyone unlucky enough to be jabbed can expect days of “ immediate, sustained, and devastating” pain that’s resistant to morphine and other painkillers. Scientists think that males use these spurs to compete with rivals during breeding season. Each spur is connected to a crural gland - or modified sweat gland- which creates a powerful venom. Male platypus have half-inch spurs on each of their hind legs. But did you know that their venom could also help treat diabetes? You might have heard that platypus are venomous. While it's not my typical cup of tea, Golden Axe is a solid entry into the hack-and-slash action genre, and belongs next to Heavenly Sword, the God of War series, and the Force Unleashed on the shelf. You will occasionally have to wrangle the camera over to the action, as you almost definitely need to SEE enemy attacks to know how defend yourself.ĭuring the course of renting this game, I came around from being afraid of it to wanting to own it. In some fights, there is an extra enemy that is simple to defeat, but perilously hard to spot coming: the camera. It is my intense recommendation that you practice, and make use of the replaying levels option to hone your skills, because some of the fights, as well as the arena mode, are punishingly unforgiving of failure. Once you master them, though, you'll do fine. The tutorial level is present, but it fails to educate you in the nuances of the block-and-evade defenses, and those you must discover on your own. First and foremost, the learning curve for this game is STEEP. Now that I've finished gushing, I need to bring up the bad parts, for there are a few. The game is well-animated, the beast-riding mechanic is fairly well-handled, the enemies are scary and intimidating without being too hard - the game is great, very immersive and a joy to play and defeat. It's powerfully tempting to spoil what's coming, but I cherish my integrity as a reviewer and say only that those looking for action games, Golden Axe games, and games with good graphics will all be pleased. If you're a fan of the Conan-style sword-and-sorcery, you'll get it. If you came to the game expecting Golden Axe, you'll get it, souped up for 7th- generation home consoles with full, fluid controls and new complexity to enrich the gameplay. The game is downright gorgeous, and understands its audience perfectly. GA:BR is a crisp, beautiful game with above average controls, excellent visuals, and a story that is exactly the right level of depth for a proper scion of the Golden Axe name. My previous fears that it would be unfinished, or a rehash of the sticky, uncomfortable '80's incarnations were needless waffling. This game is far better than I was expecting, indeed, than I hoped. Still, armed with a free rental and a recommendation from a trusted source, I went down to my local video-gameria and took a copy home to play. Sega does not have a good reputation these days. I was hesitant about playing Golden Axe: Beast Rider. The game's main storyline reveals lore from a time long before Tyris first joined Battler the warrior and Thunderhead the dwarf in their quest to conquer the evil Death Adder, one quarter at a time. In addition to Tyris Flare, there are five other playable characters. Other elements inspired by the original 16-bit game include an RPG-style leveling system, destructible environments, and even greedy little gnomes. Often, a perfectly executed attack or counter-attack move is highlighted with a quick, dramatic cinematic cut-scene. Beast Rider's magic system borrows ideas from the original arcade game, but fires them up with contemporary lighting and video effects. Parry and dodge abilities are the key to victory, but they must be used at just the right time to be successful. On foot, combat involves combos and timing. It is possible to knock an enemy off its perch and steal its mount, but opponents can steal Tyris' mount in the same way, if she is not careful. There are five main types of beast in the game, any of which can be commandeered by the heroine. Tyris fights using her powerful magical spells, on foot with a blade, or on the back of powerful, monstrous steeds that only the bravest or most foolish would ever dare try to subdue. The main storyline puts players in the role of the barbarian gladiator Tyris Flare, who seeks vengeance against the demons that destroyed her tribe. Sega's arcade and console classic of the late '80s, Golden Axe, swings out in a bold new direction with Beast Rider, a gritty, 3D combat adventure in a harsh land of fantasy. 2/17/2024 0 Comments Places to work remotely near meYou won’t have to worry about getting disconnected from your teammates on Zoom calls or waiting forever to upload your work as the internet in Saint George’s, Bermuda has an impressive average of about 102.77 Mbps.īermuda’s government also allows remote workers to stay in the country as long as they have health insurance and proof of employment, making it so much easier for remote workers with a case of wanderlust to explore their seaside sights.
